the Zugspitze

Ehrwald · Lermoos · Biberwier · Berwang · Bichlbach · Heiterwang am See · Namlos

At the foot of the Zugspitze, vacationers will find the winter getaway they seek – complemented by a panorama that rivals the great mountain ranges of the Alps.

The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena is diverse, varied, and contrasting. Here, active vacationers can enjoy not only sports, adrenaline, and action but also relaxation, tranquility, and gentle tourism on the Tyrolean side of the Zugspitze massif. Divided into the sportier and more vibrant areas of Ehrwald, Lermoos, and Biberwier, and the more traditional, gentler regions of Berwang, Bichlbach, Heiterwang am See, and Namlos, the region offers a wide range of winter activities. Skiing on Germany's highest mountain, cross-country skiing, snowshoe hiking, or igloo-building workshops are just a few of the activities available in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena during winter.

On the Go – Even After a
Day on the Slopes

For those who wish to end their day in the snow actively, there is a wide range of options to choose from. Free torchlight and llama hikes take place weekly in Lermoos and Biberwier. For those seeking more action, there are night tobogganing sessions available three times a week on the slopes or toboggan runs. At Grubigstein in Lermoos and Marienberg in Biberwier, another unique experience awaits: every day, winter guests can become co-pilots in snow groomers. Here, they can learn about the work of snowcat drivers and what it takes to prepare the kilometers of slopes for the next day. A special highlight: together with mountain guides from the Lermoos Alpine School, guests can build an igloo using traditional block construction methods.

The Zugspitze

The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena lies directly at the foot of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain at 2,962 meters and the tallest peak of the Wetterstein massif. The border between Germany and Austria runs along the ridge. The first cable car, the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn, was built to the Zugspitze in 1926. Today, it takes only about 10 minutes to reach the summit by train. On clear days, the view from the observation terrace extends to the Großglockner, Piz Bernina, or even Munich. In addition to winter sports activities, the interactive museum "Fascination Zugspitze" tells much about the mountain's history.
